They say it’s like there’s this hole like an absence of self where your everything leaks out and that the hole is in your heart dead in the center of you such an easy place to locate and why does the hole have to be in the heart anyway? such an elusive non-thing should take up as much non-space let the hole be in the mouth of the girl I was too afraid to kiss

whose name I’m not sure I remember right

or let it appear for a fraction of a second when I say the word

Home maybe cover my thirteen year old eyes with a dark cloth and have my grandfather bury the hole somewhere in the pasture and tell me to start digging using only my fingernails if the hole can belong here then I will be happy if my heart can just be my heart

Kimberly Wolf lives in Texas with her two children. She loves to cause problems, and is frequently driving fifteen hours to see a mountain. Taking a bite out of a perfectly ripe peach just knocks her right out sometimes. You can find more of her work in Nymphs Publications.
